Season 11 was off to a great start with the OG's and a couple newbies. Some of the OG's show little to zero growth or evolution. The newbies are the reason I'm still watching the show. Here's my breakdown of the cast.
Shepard Rose - He started off as an arrogant, elitist, entitled fuck boy. Let's not forget cheap, stingy... did I mention entitled? Clearly, I've never been a fan, although, Shep has had a few, very few, moments of graciousness and couth. What I did realize this season, is that Shep is cheap when it comes to material things. I noticed that when he paid for the party bus for Rodrigo's engagement party. Shep thrives on adventures, excursions, trips, experiences, not material things. Even though, for the most part, Shep is still an arrogant, elitist, entitled fuck boy, maybe the ayahuasca is helping, just a little bit.
Craig Conover - 11 seasons and Craig is still "a great liar". The charm has worn off for me. This boy is not in control of his feelings or his life. He may be the face of Sewing Down South, but he's definitely not the brains or brawn behind the brand...does he work at all? Watching him lick that straw during a business meeting was soooo cringe. When I look at him, it's incredibly hard to believe he is an actual lawyer. Zero growth, except for his bank account
Austen Kroll - How or why Madison LeCroy ever dated him is beyond me. I realize that Austen hates confrontation, but he comes across as such a weak boy. Have we ever seen him stick up for anyone? A girlfriend? A friend? The only time I remember him looking as though he had a pair of balls is when Jennifer Snowden made a derogatory comment about his baby sister. It really must be difficult to see family and friends successfully adulting why Austen watches, failing in his own eyes.
Madison LeCroy - She has been a force to be reckoned with since the moment she showed up on our screens. I love her tenaciousness, drive, and her sense of humor. Thankfully, she found a real man in Brett. I hope she continues on the show.
Venita Aspen - She's tied with Katherine Dennis, for the worst friend ever award. Venita doesn't have anything interesting going on in her life, so she shit stirs everyone else's lives. Never been a big fan of Venita, but this year she was extremely annoying to the point of fast forwarding her scenes.
Rodrigo Reyes - Another shit stirrer, but not in the malicious way that Venita is. This man will stand up for his friends in a heartbeat, and I respect him for that. I hope to see more of Rodrigo and his hubby in the future.
Sally Carson - Oh, boy where to begin... Sally came across as the most desperate woman in Charleston, SC, hell, maybe the world. It was hard to watch her vie for Craig's attention, become so jealous of Charley because Craig liked her, only to rush to hook up with Austen as soon as he broke up with Audrey. Salley is a mess. I'm sure she's scared because both her sisters and, probably most of her friends are married with children while Salley bar hops almost every night. She needs to take a break and get to know herself and love herself and be a better friend. The hypocrisy from Salley was overwhelming.
Molly O'Connell - Molly has been the best addition to Southern Charm since the beginning. Sure, I adored Chelsea, but Chelsea was a cool girl. I absolutely love the nerd in Molly, that she owns who she is without pretense or apology. She is a breath of fresh air! I'm rooting that Molly will find what she really wants/needs in life and love.
Charley Manley - The new girl on the block was a target for all the old guys on the show. I loved her comment, "It's like texting with your dad." with regard to Shep. She ain't lying, he is old enough to be her dad. Ick. I like Charley. I felt like she had a rough season with Salley as a "best friend" while Craig pursued her. I yelled, RUN!! several times while watching it unfold. Hopefully, Charley has the gumption to come back next season. I'd like to see more of her, less of some of the other cast.
Whitner Slagsvol - If I were a man in this friend group, I'd want to be Whitner. If I were a woman in this friend group, I'd want to marry and procreate with Whitner. I love that he's not a pretentious, whiney, arrogant man child like so many of the other men that have appeared on Southern Charm. He, clearly, knows who he is, strengths and weaknesses, and he behaves accordingly. I adore Whitner!
